2017 will be remembered for claiming the lives of many an entertainer with storyteller and authentic highlife crooner; Ewurama Badu among the fallen ones.
Ewurama Badu passed away at the Effiduase Government Hospital in the Ashanti Region on Thursday, October 26, 2017 around 9pm after a brief illness.
Badu offered popular tunes such as ‘Komkom’, Medofo Adaada Me,’ ‘Obaatan Refre Ne Mma’ and ‘Yaaye Mmbo.’
The 72-year-old veteran was honoured in 2016 together with female legends like Asabea Kropa, Grace Omaboe, Grace Nortey, Efua Dorkeno, Naa Adjaley, Wilhelmina Mensah, Naa Amanua of Wulomei by Value for Life, a non-governmental organisation founded by the then Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts; Dzifa Ablah Gomashie.
Badu was once a police recruit but soon left to form Nananom Band when she found the service was unyielding to her musical aspirations.
According to her third son; Papa Kwame who is a chartered accountant, his fallen mother deserves a state burial for her contribution to music.
The final funeral rites for Badu is set to be held on February 17, 2018 at the Centre for National Culture in Kumasi.
