Winner of the 2017 edition of the Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Margaret Mwintuur Dery has denied reports that she is having an affair with Yakubu Bawumia, brother of the Vice President of Ghana.
Prior to the finale of the 2017 Miss Ghana, which was dubbed Miss Ghana@60, there were reports that the Upper East representative, Margaret Mwintuur Dery was tipped to win because of affiliation with Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s brother, Yakubu.
The rumour at the time was that the said brother of the Vice President, Yakubu Bawumia had sponsored the pageant with a huge amount in the name of Margaret Dery.
Per the stories that circulated, Miss Dery did not meet the standard requirement for Ghana@60, the story said, the queen could not express herself in her mother tongue or any other dialect in the Upper West, though one’s ability to dialogue in their dialect was a condition for enrollment.
Miss Dery, however in a conversation with JoyNews’ MzGee, revealed that she was unperturbed by allegations in media circles.
“I had to sit and tell myself that forget about everything because I knew deep down within myself that I was working as hard as the other ladies and I knew that my passion will take me there so I didn’t let the bloggers or whoever was trying to get me down do anything,” she said.
Though Miss Dery acknowledged knowing Yakubu Bawumia, brother of the Vice President, she insists their relationship was not amorous. “There is no truth to it at all. He is just a friend,” she asserted.
Miss Ghana 2017 also debunked rumours that, the Minister for the Interior and Member of Parliament for Nandom, Ambrose Dery, who is believed to be her uncle, influenced her win.
The allegation that Ambrose Dery could alter the result in her favour was borne out of the fact that the 2017 edition was in partnership with government.
“Definitely not. I hope everyone watched the grand finale and watched everyone’s performance. I will say I performed well and that got me the crown,” she insisted.
The rumours have gained currency following wild allegations of abuse and extortion levelled against the franchise holder of the Miss Ghana beauty pageant, Inna Mariam Patty by three former beauty queens namely; Stephanie Karikari (2010), Giuseppina Nana Akua Baafi (2013), Antoinette Delali Kemevor (2015).

when a lady describes a man as "just a friend" it creates a lot of doubts. Most of us men have been described by ladies as just a friend meanwhile it is not mostly not true. Even when u chop the "***barred word***" koraa she will say we are just friends. There is nothing wrong with the two of them having an amorous relationship. They are adults. Ghanaians should chop their house matter and leave them alone. The lady looks so nice.. Her "***barred word***" will look good. People are chopping things paaaaa
