The final edition of the annual Girl Talk concert for songstress Jane Awindor popularly known as Efya had many surprises when it happened on December 27 at the National Theater.
The past events have always had surprising moments but this year’s put patrons into a lot of frenzy moments. Many ladies including celebrities who attended the bow out edition for Efya were honoured for their good works. One of the few Ghanaian female entertainers who was regarded with great respect at the show was actress cum movie producer Yvonne Nelson.
Halfway through the show, Efya called on former Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie to perform a duty. Madam Gomashie who wrote her speech on a phone because she did not want to forget the right words to describe Miss Nelson waxed lyrical about her.
She admired the ‘4Play’ actress’ boldness despite insults hurled at her for the past months due to her newly born baby. Yvonne during the former minister’s praises dropped some tears.
Several ladies including known faces in the country were called on stage to help honour Yvonne Nelson with a crown for not giving up in life despite the challenges.
Martha Ankomah, MzVee, Lydia Forson, Sandra Ankobia, Becca, Nana Adwoa Awindor and many other prominent personalities mounted the stage to promise their support for each other.

Yes, that is Ghana for you. A young lady who claims to be engaged, and in a committed relationships leaves her fiancee to become the baby mama of an obroni celebrity photographer that nobody knows. Yvonne you are so brave, congrats!
dear former minister,so do you consider yvonne nelson, afia scwarz, shatta wale, wanlov kubolor, efya, sister deborah, ebony, moesha and others like them as role models in Ghana? Is what you are trying to communicating to us by shamelessly or shamefully honoring or awarding yvonne nelson for nothing?Or was it for her sleeping with some cheap obroni? My goodness no wonder Ghana is in retrogression in its development. And such a person with such low IQ was once a minister so how do we develop as a nation?
Can I not recognize my country anymore?Even before I came to read the comments I was already saying to myself this was cheap and noon***barred word*** talk from the former minister or what she was I don't.Madam minister what precisely has Yvonne Nelson done last year or this year that was worth this empty commendation?Or you were awarding her for sleeping with some low-class cheating obroni who is married to another woman? Why is that these days when someone criticises sincerely the bad behavior of others in the society then they are called or seen as haters.Haters for what? Why would I hate someone like Yvonne Nelson who I have never met.But many people these days ignore the fact that we are an African society where we used to be our brothers and sisters keepers, so what goes on in another sister or brothers house concerns as all.So I won't need to know Shatta wale or Yvonne Nelson before criticising them if they show wrong behavior against our cultural values. But it seems our fine cultural practice is now attacked by people like the minister who thinks that people with good intention who criticise others doing something wrong in our society are haters. For christ sake, we are not an individualistic society like Europe or American. We have always been a communal society that is interested or concerned with what goes on in other peoples home for the general well-being of the whole society. So those ***barred word*** educated eurocentric elite like the minister who sits in Ghana and adopts a western lifestyle and values are in the wrong society and therefore should live.Look at you wearing some shapeless trousers and standing there endorsing and awarding a woman of bbaadd example and mediocrity.Do we still have decent people in Ghana, do we still have elders in Ghana?Maybe the government and traditional leaders should consider creating a CULTURAL POLICE DEPARTMENT as in other countries to reverse the trend of moral decadence and the corruption of our cultural values now on the rise in Ghana.
Ghana is just a silly country to live in...period !!!
You have stated my mind precisely. Ghana is a nation where mediocrity is hailed and constantly awarded. I love Yvonne very much but what precisely has she done to deserve this honor or award or whatever that was? Is she being awarded because she had a baby out of wedlock? Is she being honored for her acting prowess or directing skills? Haven't there been more impressive women in Ghana in 2017? Until we start awarding real excellence and achievement in Ghana, our dear nation will continue to languish in poverty and underdevelopment.
Madam Gomashie can you tell us what "boldness" Yvonne has exhibited? You see... you guys are also part of the problem in this country. Ghana is broken morally and you the older generation are partly to be blamed. You have failed us. Do you know what boldness is? It is that woman who sleeps on the street at circle, no home, no money in the bank account, yet wakes up everyday to hassle and take care of her 4 fatherless children. She doesn't know the father of those kids because she was raped in the middle of the night, yet she doesnt give up on life. That is boldness! Whoever Yvonne decides to sleep with and have babies with shouldn't be anybody's problem but do not try and set a new standard and make it seem as if she is some Yaa Asantewaa. How about Afia Schwar? You should write her a lullaby. The hypocrisy in Ghana is just nauseating.
