The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has denied claims that government is going to pay celebrities to become covid-19 ambassadors.
According to him, even though they are seeking to work with people who are influential on social media to help disseminate information on the pandemic, the intention is not to employ and pay them.
“Government doesn’t intend to pay any celebrity to go out there to become ambassadors for COVID-19. I mentioned in our meeting with the GJA, NMC etc. that we were also thinking of having persons with large following share our messages,” he said.
Ghana has recored 9 positive cases of the novel coronavirus so far.
Whilst the President Nana Akuffo-Addo has placed an embargo on all public gatherings including funerals, festivals and church activities as part of measures to stop the spread of novel coronavirus across the country, some celebrities have also stepped up to help by sharing safety measures with their followers on social media.

Bam, you have said all. some of our celebrities are to greedy.pple are dying living wealth behind.this virus has no respecter for both the rich and the poor
Real Celebrities don't need to be called out or coaxed to spread the message about the virus. They come out on their own without urging from any person or group. If the virus wipes out their followers where will they get followers from? Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Idris Elba, Sadio Mane have come out on their own to convey the message on the need to stay safe. Beyond that some have even made donations to help combat the virus and the German National Team deserves special mention here for mobilizing 2.5million(not sure if it is euros or us dollars but it is still substantial in any currency) towards the fight against the dollar. So if any so-called celebrity in Ghana thinks this is the time to cash in financially to spread any message about covid-19 then this is my message to you: we don't really need such people to fight the virus and we are safer without your message. This is the time we should be each other's keeper instead of striking financial deals to spread message about a danger we all face.
