According to information available to Peacefmonline.com, the much publicized second edition of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards has been suspended till further notice.
This is due to the sudden death of the President of Ghana J.E.A Mills which occurred yesterday Tuesday July 24, 2012.
The event was scheduled to take place at the main hall of the Accra International Conference Center on Saturday July 28, 2012.
A press statement released to Peacefmonline.com reads:
Following the untimely death of our dear President, Prof. John Evans
Atta-Mills, Big Events Ghana, organizers of Radio and Television Personalities Awards have, as a matter of national reverence and deserved respect, found it appropriate to temporarily suspend this
weekend's scheduled event.
Ordinarily, this event is meant to draw attention to our radio and
television personalities in celebration of their accomplishments.
However, given the present atmosphere, we deem it totally appropriate to accord all attention and respect to our late president
john Evans Attah Mills.
As our nation's flags at half mast and the entire country huddles together in observance of this solemn period in our history, we join our radio and television personalities as they console and comfort a bereaved nation through these difficult times.
We will monitor the tampered mood of the nation over the next few days
and announce an appropriately respectable date in due course.
We the management of the big events Ghana, along with our partners in
the United States, pray for our beloved late president. May his humble soul rest in eternal peace.
