Ghanaian basketball talents descend at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) court on Saturday March 14 ahead of the hugely-anticipated Greater Accra Zone 1 qualifiers. Players have entered the homestretch of their buildup for the 2015 UPAC Basketball Championship as they set up their respective camping base.
The University of Professional Studies, Pentecost University College, Ho Polytechnic and the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) will be locked up for the massive showdown.
Fast-rising Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) open their campaign with a tricky tie against Ho Polytechnic before University of Professional Studies (UPSA) lock horns with Pentecost University. The round-robin format will see Pentecost University battle a GIMPA side stewed in confidence in their second game before clashing with Ho Polytechnic in their final group game.
Other mouth-watering fixtures will see Ho Polytechnic meeting with UPSA and Pentecost University College. GIMPA could become the surprise package this season after impressing heavily during the warm-up games last weekend. They accounted for Wisconsin International College to serve as real boost to the side ahead of their group encounters. There was a win for UPSA while Pentecost University lost their warm-up fixture against Ghana Telecomm University.
Ho Polytechnic have in their fold a number of rising stars who played for Keta and Mawuli Senior High Schools in the famous Sprite Ball Championship. Former Ketasco captains Sedem Tetevi and Alem Butias are expected to spearhead the title challenge of the side with UPSA lurking as a potential party spoiler.
The Greater Accra zone 1 qualifiers are expected to attract huge numbers at the UPSA court as the winner after the round-robin showdown will qualify for the finals. The eagerly-awaited one-day competition will be streamed LIVE on www.basketballghana.com
