Five fans of Berekum Arsenals died in a fatal car accident Sunday night after watching their team beat New Edubiase 3-1 on the last day of the Premier League to survive relegation.
The accident occurred when a Mercedes Benz conveying the supporters from the match venue, Cape Coast to Berekum crashed into a truck.
The fans were rushed to the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi but five of them were pronounced dead on arrival. Team manager of Berekum Arsenals, Douglas Effah said the club was traumatized.
He said the jubilation of supporters and management of the club after such a sweet victory was cut short by the horrific accident. Mr Effah said management was collecting the identities of the victims and to decide what action next to take.
