The football pitch of the Accra Sports Stadium is currently under intensive renovation ahead of the next soccer season.
The exercise, which is expected to last up to the first week of
September, is aimed at improving the standards of the pitch for
quality delivery and as a result the pitch is not in use at the
moment.
A visit to the Accra Sports Stadium by GNA Sports saw workers
busily at work on the pitch with the two goal posts removed, whilst
the grass is being mowed down for redesigning of the base of the
pitch.
According to the information gathered at the site, an improved
base made up of sand to ease absorption of water during the rainy
season before the re-grassing of the pitch would be undertaken.
Frank Boahene, Chief Executive of Green Grass Technology, (GGT)
sports pitch experts working on the project told the GNA Sports that,
the pitch will be in a better shape after the renovation.
He gave the assurance that some of the defects which were exposed
in the course of the last football season will be addressed.
In view of the ongoing renovation exercise, there are indications
that the proposed Top Six Football Tournament by the Ghana League
Clubs Association (GHALCA) might be played since without the National
Stadium the event cannot be successful.
