Cameroon international Samuel Eto'o has launched a scathing attack on his own country, accusing football officials of trying to "kill" him.Eto'o, 31, is struggling to prove his fitness for Anzhi Makachkala's Europa League knockout stage clash with Hannover on Thursday, but admits off-field dramas are his top concern at the moment.
The four-time African Player of the Year has reportedly been engaged in a furious conflict with the Cameroonian Football Federation (FCF) for some time, revealing he requires armed bodyguards to protect himself from the "incompetent and corrupt" authorities.
"The leaders of the FCF want to attack my life, they want to kill me," he told Cameroonian magazine Je Wanda. "I live with a group of gendarmes (military forces) and one sleeping in front of my door. I do this not out of snobbery, but for my own safety.
"[The federation] have swindled our money long enough. Instead of managing football for the general interest, they are only concerned with fictitious missions, first class travels and untraceable bank accounts in Europe."
The FCF is yet to respond to Eto'o's comments, although they have previously accused the striker of tarnishing Cameroon's reputation.
