Ibrahim Tanko was confirmed assistant coach of Cameroons Indomitable Lions on Saturday by the countrys sports ministry.
The ministry announced German Volker Finke has signed a two-year contract as head coach following his appointment three weeks ago.
Tanko has been a trusty steed to Finke since they worked together at Freiburg when the ex-Black Stars striker was named assistant coach of the reserves side.
The former Borrusia Dortmund player was one of Finkes lieutenants at Urawa Red Diamonds.
The 35-year-old was assistant coach for FC Cologne in the Bundesliga two seasons ago before their demotion.
He was appointed scout for Ghana at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
Tanko and his boss have been tasked with qualifying the Indomitable Lions for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Cameroon, joint top of their group alongside Libya, can go three points clear by beating Togo on Sunday.
