Black Stars defender Jonathan Mensah says the team is happy to be tagged as the underdogs in their often labelled Group of Death contest in Group G at the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
He says the underdogs tag for the team which must play the United States of America, Germany and Portugal at the group stage, applied in the Black Stars two previous campaigns, but which saw the team prove people wrong.
In an interview with fifa.com, the 23-year-old central defender said while he appreciates the pedigree and quality of the other teams in the group, the team comes with its own quality.
Yes, we're happy to be underdogs. We respect that, statistically, the teams in our group are really high-profile, more so than Ghana, and we do respect that. But we're here and we're more focused on our game. And we're here to prove everybody wrong once again.
He said expectation of the team back home is high, with everybody hoping the players can prove themselves once again and make it out of the group stage.
Jonathan said the battle will be tough, but with unity in camp as the teams strongest point, we've got confidence we can achieve our aim in this year's World Cup.
