Immediate-past Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuije is demanding credit for the early success of the Black Stars at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with GHOne TV Sports, the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo claims he put in all the preparatory measures that got coach Avram Grant’s side to reach the quarterfinal stage with a game to spare in Group D.
He argues that he came under vilification for some measures he put in place during the Black Stars’ preparations, adding that his actions which if backfired would have seen him receive bashing from the football fraternity, should be accorded due credit as the team is on course to ending the country’s 35-year Afcon trophy wait.
“I’ve been fasting and praying that things should go well for the Black Stars. It is my hope and prayer that when it goes well with the Black Stars, people who have been vilifying me will give the credit to me because I did all the work. I prepared the team.
“If the Black Stars had failed, I’m sure that everybody will be saying… even before they left, some of the GFA people were saying that they’ve not had enough preparation because the Minister did not give them all that they are looking for.
“So the issue is that any failure will be ascribed to me; I’m expecting them the same way that the glory and success there will also be ascribed to me,” Nii Lante said.
The Black Stars have won their two games against Uganda and Mali and will face Egypt Wednesday evening.
The Ghana-Egypt Group D game is live on GHOne TV at 7pm. Pre-match discussions starts 30 minutes earlier.

U are just a talkative,u making unnecessary noise was the ministry u headed just for Black stars. My friend shut your mouth and let the boys converntrate on their game, they need the trophy more then the credit you looking for.
Please, wait until we win the cup and definitely, the credit will be yours.
you are not ashamed. you are a disgrace. shame
Hon, The Black Maidens are still waiting for their per-diem for 2016
I honestly think former Hon. Minister is right but his actions and in-actions only affected them in the world cup qualifiers. Also for the world cup qualifiers the GFA was thinking if the Black Stars failed to qualify, the minister would be blamed. Little did they know that the minister's party would loose the election. My humble advice to the GFA is that ministers will come and go but you will still be there and if there is success would be abscribed to GFA. So GFA should stop the fighting of ministers and always do the right thing.
Congrats for loosing 5 out of 6 points in the World qualification.
Bad luck....
That's true but the media cabal will not do that...l can see a headline that goes " Mahama's Minister of Sports, the cause of Black Stars failure at Just ended AFCON" if the Black Stars fails to win the trophy, however, if they win then expect something like "Hon Asiamah under Akuffo Addo's NPP break jinx ...Black Stars, 5 times African Champions. So better physique yourself up for this because the main and majority of the media is very bias towards the NPP.You really did put the corrupt GFA on tentacles. By the way this so called reduction and progressive increment of bonuses cumulatively will be higher that a fixed one of $8000 should the win the trophy eventually so don't believe the hype...
Credit to you, Nii Lante for being the ex-black star minister instead of being SPORTS minister.
