Atletico Madrid star Thomas Partey took Ghana’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying clash with Congo Brazzaville to equal ex-international Yaw Preko’s record for the West African giants.
The 24-year-old was the star of the afternoon as he grabbed a treble at the Stade de l’Unité in Brazzaville.
The last time Ghanaian player scored three times in the jersey of the Black Stars was ex-winger Yaw Preko 23 years ago.
The 42-year-old for Anderlecht and Fenerbache player netted a double brace against Eritrea on February 28, 1999.
His performance against Eritrea was a repeat of his scoring prowess against Niger 5 years earlier when he scored three goals for the Black Stars against Niger in a 5-1 triumph.
In June 2014, Swansea City star Jordan Ayew scored a hat-trick for Ghana during a pre-World Cup friendly against South Korea.
But Partey’s performance on Tuesday has lifted him level to Preko.

The article say the match against Eritrea was a repeat of an earlier one, 5 years, against Niger where Ghana won 5-1. 5 years before 99 was 1994 which is 23 years now. Please country-men let's not be too quick to condemn
I do not get the point of this article. Asamoah Gyan scored many goals against Somalia once. I think we beat them by 7 and Gyan scored not less than 3 goals. And 23 years ago was not 1999.
U DID WELL BRO.
23 years ago cannot be 1999. I am sure about that.
