Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah has dismissed claims that his decision to overlook Andre and Jordan Ayew ahead of the Fifa World Cup qualifier against Uganda next month is because of hatred for the Ayew family.
The 56-year-old gaffer has announced a 26-man provisional squad to be whittled down to 23, with the Ayew brothers missing out.
The decision has led to several discussions among Ghanaians with some suggesting that the coach’s hatred for the Ayew family influenced his decision.
Sola Ayew, brother of the players’ father Abedi Pele Ayew, has launched a scathing attack at Appiah, insisting that the coach has been harbouring hatred against the family since 1992 after Abedi was made captain of Ghana ahead of him.
But Appiah claims the decision was just to give other players the opportunity to show what they can do.
“This [overlook of the Ayew brothers] has nothing to do with that because there’s no issue [between me and the family],” Appiah told GNA.
“We know the calibre of Andre and Jordan Ayew already and if we want to build a team for the future, then we need to give other players the chance to also prove themselves.
“They are playing well in the Premier League [so I didn’t drop them for lack of form],” he added.
Ghana sit third in Group E with five points, four points behind leaders Egypt.

Are the players going to replace Dede and Jordan non Ghanaians? Is the national team created for a particular family? Who is to blame if things go wrong in the national team, is it Abedi and his family or Akwasi Appiah? Leave the coach alone to make decisions he deems fit for the national team and Ghana. For Sola Ayew, if its true he's making such statements against Kwesi Appiah, then it's very unfortunate and I'll be forced to say that he's still a child who is not informed at all even though he lives in the period of information therefore he lacks so much and therefore, is not good for him cos he is exhibiting great illiteracy and village attitude.
Where are Sola Ayew's Children? Even if they are Girls can't they play football?. "Kokotako"
Please, what is issue about dropping of players from National team? The Head coach has all the right to invite whoever he deems fit to achieve his technical competence. We have not heard from Ayew brothers but we are assuming for them. In any case, did the Coach give Dede a prior information as normally done to senior players like a Deputy Captain? How can a Deputy Captain be dropped from the team without any prior notice? When Kwadjo Asamoah refused to play for Black Stars what did Ghanaians ask him? But my only worry is, we are dropping Premier League players and rather going in for second division team players in the name of team building. When Coach Appiah fails, lets hold him responsible and stop playing Ghanaian cards.
