Ghanaian Premier League forward Alex "Makwekwe" Asamoah says he has not quit football to become a palm wine tapper after a picture of him working on a farm went viral earlier this week.
The photograph shared on Facebook and Whatsapp platforms showed the 32-year-old former Ashgold and Kotoko striker fetching the wine from a palm tree with a blue gallon.
The captions that accompanied the photograph suggested that the he had quit football to tap palm wine because of the ban on all football activities which has affected the Ghana Premier League.
However, in an interview with Otec Fm, the former Ghana Premier League goal king explained that he only took the picture on a visit to a village.
He said as a footballer he respects the efforts palm wine tappers put into their jobs and would never look down on them.
Asamoah said he would take a cue from Black Stars skipper Asamoah Gyan by disregarding the report which he believes stem from the lack of football stories to report on the local scene.
Asamoah joined debutantes Techiman Eleven Wonders in January this year ahead of the start of the Ghana Premier League season.
