Theophilus Edzie Wilson, President of the Ghana Swimming Federation (GSF), has said, Ghanas Swimming team, has the prospects of winning medals at the next Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia in 2018.

He said though the team did not win any medal at the 20th Commonwealth Games, in Glasgow, Scotland, he was satisfied with their performance taking into consideration the fact that, the team was one of the youngest in the event.

Edzie Wilson, told the GNA Sports that, their target of reducing their respective entry times were enough motivation to prepare the team for future events.

He said most members of the team set national records in 50m and 100m free style as well as 50m butterfly adding that the feats come with a lot of prospects for the future.

According to the president, they are targeting semi-final berth in next Olympics scheduled for Rio in Brazil as well as the All Africa Games.

He said there was the need to develop a long term strategy towards winning medal at international competition, adding that it will be the prime objective of his outfit when they get to Ghana.

"Those who are going home with medals started way back, so they are reaping what they invested. We started just four years ago, and I must say the prospects are good.

"Our target now is to make it the semi finals in the forthcoming Olympics and the next Commonwealth Games.

We are training in other strokes too. Currently, our star swimmer is Abeiku Jackson, who is just 14years, he was ahead of his counterparts by four seconds and he will be a force to reckon with in the next few years. He stated.
