The newly built Kwame Nkrumah Interchange is economically beneficial as it helps the public to save money, thereby indirectly putting money in the pockets of citizens, economist Edward Kareweh has said.
At the inauguration of the Interchange on Monday, President John Mahama said US$100 million is lost annually through congestion around that enclave.
With the new infrastructure fully functional, Mr Kareweh said individuals will be saving money “without government putting the monies directly in their pockets”, adding: “All those who passed the place initially and lost money will now be gaining money. It is, however, difficult to bring it to the understanding of everybody, but with the construction of the project, you have saved money.”
He added that the Interchange would facilitate faster movement of goods, creation of services and other businesses, which will be created around the hub.
“This adds to economic improvement. It is something which everyone must appreciate,” he stated.
He indicated that the public should now be able to channel that money into other ventures.
Mr Kareweh held the view that the infrastructure will help to create jobs by employing people to work on the facility and will still create jobs afterwards because professionals will be needed to maintain the facility.
Inaugurating the Interchange, Mr Mahama explained that thousands of jobs would be created through the establishment of the facility.
He said: “With the opening of this interchange, we believe that several thousand more jobs will be created as a result of the trade and economic activity that this project will facilitate. Time is a precious invaluable commodity and once spent, it cannot be recovered. Effective use of time, therefore, has a direct impact on our economy and must be calculated as a contribution to our GDP.
"With the opening of this interchange on which at peak hours is used by about 80,000 vehicles and daily it is estimated to be used by about 200,000 vehicles, reducing travelling time between the Ring Road Central and Feo Eyeo Intersection towards the North Industrial Area from two hours to just approximately five minutes, not only are we saving hundreds of millions of cedis in time wasted by the delay and the travel time, but we are also stimulating business and economic activity."

Oh Manasseh Azure, is that what you can also say about the interchange at circle. I thought you are level headed and can think far above the level of the illiterate but this is what politics has made you. You can also not see that any project that is designed to free the city of congestion would save the individual fuel, wear and tear and the nation fuel and vehicle running cost and hence money in our pockets. You and those who think like you are educated illiterates just confusing Ghanaians around with your ability to write and speak the the queens language. You have to stop and allow yourself to be taught. In fact I am disappointed.
As for that f001 @ Joy FM, Manasseh Azure Awuni, the least talked about him the better. that boy has NO sense of reasoning at all.He is a onesided journalist. He is a very big disgrace to we the northern people. They should have allowed Raymond Agambiiri to teach him a lesson in the Court. He is just too stup11d for our like.

How can an economist worth his credentials make such a statement when the project does not bring any income? Shame.
whats the big deal about this interchange? is the first of its kind in the world? something that u went to borrow money to do u are claiming credit for it? how? only God knows how much money they have stolen from the project. it is not but anyone including my grandmother can do this project if we happen to be in charge. we are talking about social intervention policies that will change the ple's life. this kind of projects are already there and you dont have to think to do this. all u need is the money. why cant we think about social intervention programs that will help create jobs and makes ple's life better? that is what makes u a good president and not constructing things anywhere and stealing the money.
Dr. Richard Tia (KNUST lecturer, Chemistry Dept) shares his view on Facebook..... I strongly disagree with Joy FM's Manasseh Azure Awuni's position that the construction of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange is nothing to be celebrated because "any joker can do it". Kwame Nkrumah Circle was constructed in the 1960s and since then nothing had been done to give it a face-lift befitting a national capital. All of us knew that Kwame Nkrumah Circle was a national disgrace and something needed to be done about it. If John Mahama's government has done it, he needs to be celebrated for it. These days "any joker" can get a second class diploma from GIJ but when Manasseh did it he celebrated "well well" on Facebook and we all congratulated him even though we were aware that people of Manasseh's age were getting Ph.D.s in Europe, America and Asia. If the price is inflated, as almost all of John Mahama's projects are, let's discuss that, but the building of the interchange is a welcome development and we should all praise the government for it. Does the Interchange puts us at par with Dubai as some government propagandists are trying hard to imply? Not by any stretch of common sense! Does John Mahama deserve a second term by virtue of constructing the Interchange? Not at all, in my opinion; John Mahama's negatives far outweigh his positives. But has John Mahama done very well by constructing the Interchange? Absolutely!
WITH NPP LIGHT COLORS (BLUE,RED & WHITE) AROUND HIM.
Nkrumah,s flyover is nice but does it necessary put money in peoples,s pocket?.Ghanaians should not deceive themselves because there is a huge debt to be paid for.Interest alone on loans amounts to $10 billions a year.Prestigious projects cannot put any money in any bodies pocket but sound economic policies and good social interventions do.
this is a waste of resource and this cannot put money into my pocket
A married woman was promised one thousand dollars by her husband 's best friend if she could sleep with him.The lady accepted and slept with him.Later the husband came back from his trip and ask the wife of the one thousand dollars .For he ask his friend to take this money from another friend to given to her.
