A senior lecturer in political science at the University of Ghana, Professor Ransford Gyampo has taken a swipe at Ghanaian politicians describing them as greedy and liars.
In an epistle on his Facebook page, inspired by comments by Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo that the public sector is chocked and cannot employ anymore, Professor Gyampo said “Politicians in Ghana would lie and deceive to get political power and when power is granted by the people, they would use this same power to inflict hardships on the people.”
He described them [politicians] as “greedy, they are self-seeking, self-serving, self-perpetuating and self-aggrandizing cabals.”
Below is the full article:
“You get your own children enrolled in the Public Service immediately after winning an election and tell all other unemployed Ghanaians that the Public Service is bloated and cannot absorb them. Indeed if have your way, you would retrench some public servants.
“Really? What was your response to the past government's public sector recruitment freeze when you were in opposition?
“I won't condemn you because I knew you were either lying to get power or u never knew what you were talking about when you were in opposition.
“My happiness is that the very gullible people who failed to reason with me when I argued that politicians in Africa and for that matter, Ghana, do not mean well for the ordinary citizenry, are now beginning to know about the politics of deceit. Indeed, your own supporters have taken serious issues with your recent comment on employment in the Public Sector.
“You may be right in telling Ghanaians about the over-bloated nature of our Public Sector and the fact that it may not be able to absorb more people.
“But didn't you know this as an astute professional when you were in opposition? Why did you criticize the same thing you are now doing?
“Politicians in Ghana would lie and deceive to get political power and when power is granted by the people, they would use this same power to inflict hardships on the people.
“What did you tell the nurses when you were in opposition? What is happening to them now?
“Admittedly, the austerity policies introduced to reduce their intake and not to bond them after school, may be the way to go. But what was your attitude about the condition of Ghanaians trainee nurses when you were in opposition?
“Politicians in Ghana do not mean well. They are greedy. They are self-seeking, self-serving, self-perpetuating and self-aggrandizing cabals.
“They would continue to take us for a ride because they know we are overly partisan. They know that we always wear partisan lenses that blindfolds us in looking at issues objectively. They know that we will still support them even if they lie to us. They know that we will still support them even if they steal from us. They know that we will still support them even if they come for our wives. They know that we will still support them even if they callously inflict hardships on us.
“Fellow Ghanaians and my friends, blind support to political parties only promote the interests of political elites, their children and cronies. it is in our own interest to rise above the kind of excessive partisanship that breeds political madness, undermines our own sovereignty as the real owners of power and makes us gullible and manipulable tools in the hands of selfish politicians.
“Until we all rise to critique and keep governments on their toes at all times, politicians would continue to make irrational promises just to get our votes and once they get our votes, they would mis-govern to undermine our quest for national development and improvement in our physical quality of life.
“I know that those who are still "politically mad" would tag me as NDC just because of this post. But it's fine because I can understand their sad condition that would not allow them to appreciate the fact that I also critiqued the NDC when it was in power.
“Mine is to scrutinize those in power!”

Prof. Gyampo was so unfair especially to the Npp. Osafo Marfo never said Npp is going to retrench public sector workers. Prof should have taken his time. The Npp did no wrong by criticizing the Ndc but more importantly, they had every right to criticize them during the campaign for their failure to grow the economy left to them by the Npp led by fmr Prez Kofour. So where did the Npp lie to Ghanaians and where is the hypocrisy? The truth is that the Npp would have grown the economy by oiling the private sector if they were in power and there would have been no need for IMF intervention to even freeze public sector employment in the first place. Osafo Marfo was right on point because the incompetent Ndc messed up our economy. A thriving private sector would even create more jobs in the public sector and that I'm sure was what Osafo Marfo was driving at. Npp would surely bring progress and prosperity to all Ghanaians. Just wait and see.
Obviously Gyampo does not understand the NPP and what Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo is saying. The NPP is about you the Ghanaian owing a business and even employing people as far afield as the West, by creating the enabling environment, backed by policies and programs that unleashes the renowned entrepreneurial ability of the Ghanaian. Public service is not where you go to make money. It is what it is, public service. Gyampo must understand what the NPP represents because making such statements shows a level of ignoranceeeeee, which is completely unnecessary for a supposed lecturer. Nobody is going to say you are NDC, but if as an academic, you want to speak to such matters, you must apply reason and intelligence to what you purport to speak about, because to say NPP lied to gain power, is mainstream pedestrian footsoldier kind of talk which debases the facts and makes a mockery of yourself and exposes you. It's needless. NPP property owning democracy, businesses, owning the economy not owning the public service. Please get a clue, please.
there is nothing wrong with the profs criticism. you got your children hired by public services and turn round to tell expecially npp party followers that the system is choked. and cant hire any ghanaian. are we foooools or idioooots or we cant reason or have no common sense. my younger daughter completed university had her national service but no work because the system is choked. may the almighty god including antoa nyama punish you forever. nobody is more ghanaian than the other only osarfo marfo
His position has been too long in coming. Mr President please appoint him quickly. He has worked too hard in helping you win power to be ignored like that. Petroleum commission boss too you swerve am
Is this not the same Prof. Gyampo who threw all academic caution to the wind and shamefully rubbished a well researched project of a faculty member as "Family and Friends Research" but rather supported the prediction of Ben Ephson. Simply because the research conducted by his own colleague at the political science Department of UG concluded that Nana Addo was going to win the 2016 elections. At the end of the day what happened? And here he is again talking. Yoo, Professor NDC yati wai.
Who doesn't know Yaw? This guy is a serious NDC person. He's trying to be neutral just because he works for The IEA and it's against the policy if the institute to party bias. Yaw I beg learn from KWESI Jonah and you go far. You are becoming too loud.
This Gyampo is scheming to be known well in the political environment in the country that is why he's always putting his mouth in any political issue/debate. AND ALL IN ALL, HE IS FORCING TO BE PART OF THE NOTORIOUS NDC where his leaning is glaringly seen. But let me tell you that no matter what, you are insignificantfacing the NPP.
SHAME on U Godfred, just bcos the prof spoke his mind and the truth, u tag him politically. Grow up and remove your political lens.
IF YOU (NPP) HAVE POWER YOU BEHAVE AS IF NO ONE SHOULD COUGH IN THIS COUNTRY. YOU MAKE PLENTY ***barred word*** NOISE AS YOU A PROFESSIONALS IN ALL AREAS BUT WHEN THE PARTY IS GIVEN POWER YOU MESS UP EVERYTHING. EVEN THE WORLD'S BELOVED DR. OSAGYEFO KWAME NKRUMAH WHO HAS PUT THIS COUNTRY WHERE IT IS TODAY IN TEMS OF DEVELOPMENT STILL YOU (NPP)BEHAVE AS IF NO ONE AS DONE ANY GOOD IN THIS COUNTRY. I ASURE YOU THAT AFTER NANA ADDO'S TERM IN OFFICE GHANANAIANS WOULD HAVE KNOWN YOUR DUBIOUS CHARACTER AND THOW YOU OUT OF POLITICAL POWER WORSE THAN THE SITUATION OF THE CURRENT CPP.
Politicians are known liars all over the world. It saddens my heart to note that this political science professor didn’t know this fact.
