A former Deputy Minister for Communication in the erstwhile John Mahama administration is asking why the ruling Nana Addo led government used state resources to fund a thanksgiving event held to mark the one year anniversary of the 2016 elections which brought them into power.
According to Felix Ofosu Kwakye, Mustapha Hamid, Minister for Information, in an interview with an undisclosed media house, said the event was sponsored by the presidency.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Radio Gold’s "Alhaji and Alhaji", Felix Ofosu-Kwakye who described the event as "an exercise in self-gratification", said it does not make sense to use state funds to sponsor a political party's programme.
“It is not clear to me what they wanted to celebrate. It was a completely unnecessary event. It was an exercise in self-gratification…What happened at the Accra International Conference Centre was an NPP event so it does not make sense that it was sponsored by the state…” he indicated.
Background
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) today, [Thursday], December 7, 2017, held a thanksgiving service at the Accra International Conference Centre to mark a year after the party won the 2016 general elections.
The event, which was held at the Accra International Conference Center, marks exactly a year since the party wrestled power from the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
President Akufo Addo, his Vice, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other leading members of the party attended.

Is this 'BOY' still talking?
You wish it were your party. So painful. When you people were insulting everybody you did not realise it. The world is round dont forget it.
A a a this Kwakye boy iii kwuraa. I which part I body I say we should hold now? He dares talks about a government spending on a party event? Was it not state funds they used for their campaign? Was it not state money Woyome was give to build NDC headquarters. Was it not government money NDC used for all the freebies during all elections? I beg, you better ***barred word*** when people who matter talk.
This guy when is he facing the special prosecutor? Such a disgraceful and insolent small boy with sharp teeth.
Was the thanks giving day declared a public holiday? Wasn’t it organized with few people and in early morning enough, such that the president can go back to the office? The Moslems as usual do their Friday prayers. So what is it that you people are talking about? Wow! Some Ghanaians just criticize for nothing; but all in the name of fixation in their ***barred word*** political ideology.
How can you people be celebrating when the ordinary Ghanaians you are representing are experiencing untold economic hardships? You people are heartless!!!😭😭😭
Opaana and his boys are chopping our money was foyafoya eish ghana dat no wonder de moni allocated to de presidency alone in more dan 5 ministries combined in terms of budget allocation and wen you talk they say to u we haf our moni be4 coming into office tweaaaaaaa wat moni Opaana.go to ECG and look at wat is going on there de previous board members were give prado each but de new board members about 8 of dem says they can't drive de prado so they haf bought 8 new v8 lancrusar for each of den this people are all rubbers infact they are stealers I borrow it from IC Quaye Godo is watching this incompetent group of people with de old man as their leader
Praying on working day, he is flouting his own directive. Hahahahahhahah
Celebration of election victory anniversary is the clearest indication that the welfare of the ordinary Ghanaian citizen is not of the topmost importance to the Nana Addo's NPP-led government. Given the existing tough economic conditions, no government who cares about the welfare of its citizens will do such a thing. African leaders are worse than the white slave masters.
And so what? Nana Addo is giving thanks and glory to Allah/God for making him president. That is the right thing to do. What did you and your corrupt president do? Steal our money to the last. Incompetent group. May Allah continue to bless Nana Addo and his able vice president Alhaji Bawunia and may Allah bless mother Ghana. Ameen.
