The Concerned Teacher and Trainee Nurses have raised some concerns in the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang, former Minister of Education, as the running mate to John Dramani Mahama.
The group in a statement copied to Peacefmonline.com said the former Education Minister is “unfit” for the position she has been appointed to occupy.
“Our fear is premised on the fact that under the reign of Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Minister of Education under the erstwhile administration of the NDC, teacher and trainee nurses in the country went through several ordeals following the cancellation of trainee allowances,” a portion of the statement read
The National Executive Committee of the NDC unanimously endorsed Mr. Mahama’s nomination of Professor Opoku-Agyemang as his running mate for the December 2020 election on Monday, 6 July 2020.
Mr. Mahama later said in a Facebook that Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who happened to be his Minister of Education during his presidency, is “God-fearing”, “a distinguished scholar”, “a conscientious public servant” and “a role model.
She is the first woman chosen by the NDC as a running mate.

PRESS STATEMENT BY CONCERNED TEACHER AND TRAINEE NURSES OVER SELECTION OF PROF. JANE NAANA OPOKU AGYEMANG AS NDC RUNNING MATE
We the Concerned Teacher and Trainee Nurses in the country have received the selection of Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, former Minister of Education, as the running mate to Mr. John Dramani Mahama, with lots of fear and trepidation.
Our fear is premised on the fact that under the reign of Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Minister of Education under the erstwhile administration of the NDC, teacher and trainee nurses in the country went through several ordeals following the cancellation of trainee allowances.
We have no doubt that the decision by the then President and now Candidate John Dramani Mahama to cancel these allowances, which was a major source of reprieve for us trainees, was based on advice from she (Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang)
As every Ghanaian is aware, it took the intervention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo and his able Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, to restore these much-needed allowances for us as students.
With her selection as the running mate to Mr. Mahama, we have no doubt that she will pursue her agenda once again, in the unlikely event that the NDC wins December 2020 elections.
It is for this reason that we the Concerned Teacher and Nurses Trainees are calling on our colleague trainees and other Ghanaians aspiring to pursue teaching and nursing as professions to mass up at the various registration centres to register and vote massively against the NDC in the December 7 elections.
Please consider this call as a national crusade because it will define our destiny as students and the future as teachers and nurses.

NPP followers are so funny. Most Ghanaians are great thinkers and read between the lines to determine genuine contributions. You just formed Teacher and Nursing Training Association within 24 hrs of announcing the selection of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. Take it or leave it, there is time for everything.
I completed my tertiary education with the help of the students' loan I got from SSNIT. What makes the trainee teachers and nurses so exceptional to be given allowances. Upon graduation and employment by the government, they hold that same government to ransom for pay increase through strikes. I believe the decision to scrap the allowances was to bring some sort of balance to the system. Fairness prevailed when the allowances was scrapped. This government will one day be haunted for restoring the allowances some day...........
I know come understand what President said at Canada about Women. Portia & Rebecca, which develop country paid Teacher & Nursing Allowance? Only ***barred word*** Hole Ghana. And is not like they did not provide alternative. I will be going to KNUST, UG, Cape Coast to pursue the same qualification. You want me to go for Student Loan, but for you we should paid you? What a ***barred word*** HOLE country. I said it yesterday. THEY ARE THEIR OWN ENEMY. I was expecting MEN to come and say this. NOT you PORTIA & REBECCA. You should Bow your Head Down in shame......
Shame ! Shame !! Shame !!! Bow down your heads in shame. Just forming a Teacher and Nursing Training Association within 24 hrs of announcing the selection of Jean Naana is the most desperate attempt to water down the overwhelming acceptance of the candidacy of the Prof. Also this is one of the ugliest form of human expression. The Prof. has landed and with God, nothing can stop her.
Ndc with their ultimate hypocrisy. Is Ndc telling us now that at the time of her unfortunate decision women were not part of these two professions. Ok may be the women flew to Burkina
This is not about women empowerment it is about their own development and growth on the social ladder. They need to survive and grow like the many financial benefits she enjoyed from the state to be where she is now and enjoying with the family Nobody is against women empower if it is based on competence. How do you endorse some one who is insensitive even on femine issues and education her area of speciality, when even payment for the education of disabled was in arrears under her watch as an education minister
REBECCA AND PORTIA MUST BOW THEIR HEADS DOWN IN SHAME.INSTEAD OF YOU ENCOURAGING YOUR FELLOW WOMAN,YOU GO AHEAD AND WEAR POLITICAL GOWN ON THIS TOO.LATER SAY THERE IS NO WOMAN EMPOWERMENT.BIG SHAME ON YOU FELLOW LADIES GOD IS WATCHING.YOUR PAY CHEQUE IS READY
